The Dying Black Era

Age and Year Event
Year 645 The Great Contagion begins to infect vast swathes of the population, aided by the transport network created by Absolom IV. By the end of this year more than a billion mortals will have died.
Year 646 The Shogunate in chaos, martial law is declared. The contagion begins affecting Dragon-Blooded, marking its move to supernatural beings.
Year 647 The first gods and elementals die of the contagion. The Shogunate hovers on the brink of collapse, its armies decimated. Yu-Shan is crowded with refugees, and orders the portals shut. Riots break out in the poor quarters of the heavenly city as the contagion takes hold there too.
Year 648 Sensing the weakness of reality, the Raksha invade with a force not seen since the beginning of the First Age. The Shogunate forces attempt to hold them at bay, but are overrun, weakened as they are already by the contagion.
Year 649 The Great Contagion begins to weaken, and slowly across this year the number of cases diminish. By its end it will have killed more than 3 billion mortals, thousands of Dragon-Blooded, and millions of gods and elementals. The Raksha invasion reaches its peak, reaching the shores of the Blessed Isle for the first time in history. Even the might of heaven cannot hold it back, as gods and elementals are drafted in to fight the invaders, and the Viziers fight on the front line for the first time since the Primordial War. No force is enough, and for the first time since its making, Creation is truly in danger of dissolution. A group of Dragon-Blooded, led by the woman who will become the Scarlet Empress make their way to the Imperial Manse and try to activate the defense systems therein.
